Technology and Tactics Frame Upcoming TAPS Collaboration

As the COVID-19 pandemic has forced adaptability, the upcoming TAPS 2021 Collaboration Event seeks to encompass a synopsis of the 2020 TAPS competition, as well as the kick-off to the 2021 contest season.
The 2021 TAPS Collaboration event will take place on March 27 starting at 4 p.m. CST, and will be hosted at the Younes Conference Center in Kearney, Nebraska.
Since the previously scheduled awards ceremony was held virtually due to COVID-19 restrictions, attendees will be provided with a brief, yet in-depth synopsis and analysis of the 2020 competition, and a chance to celebrate winners. During this overview, TAPS team members will lead a conversation on 2020 decisions made and consequential results. Additionally, participants will be provided opportunity to engage with the TAPS team, comprised of educators and specialists, as well as representatives and peers, throughout the evening.
“After a year that saw huge differences in yield, due to water application, and huge differences in marketing, which resulted in large profit per acre differences, we are anxious to see what mother nature and the crop markets have to offer us in 2021,” said Chuck Burr, TAPS team member and crops and water extension educator at UNL-WCREEC.
The 2021 farm management contests, which are facilitated on extension fields in North Platte, will include sprinkler irrigated corn, subsurface drip irrigated (SDI) corn, and the sorghum competition, which will include both dryland and irrigated components this year.
Participants will be introduced to the wide variety of new and emerging technology, which will be available in the upcoming competitions. The event will also serve as the kick-off of the 2021 competition, signaling the start of a new TAPS season. The kick-off ensures competitors are acquainted with the interactive website where decisions are made, acquire login credentials, learn to view accessible farm pages, and receive more information about each management decision they will make.
The event will conclude with a dinner meal. Current COVID-19 safety measures will be in place, including required masks and an attempt to maintain social distancing.
