Nebraska Ag Connection - 01/14/2021

Winter wheat seeded area for 2021 is estimated at 810,000 acres, down from last year's seeded area of 900,000 acres, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. If realized this would be a new record low.

U.S. winter wheat planted area for harvest in 2021 is estimated at 32.0 million acres, up 5 percent from 2020 and up 2 percent from 2019. This represents the fourth lowest United States acreage on record.

Seeding of the 2021 acreage was underway in early-September and was ahead of the 5-year average pace. Throughout the season, planting and emergence progress remained ahead of the 5-year average pace. Seeding was mostly complete by November 15, 2020.
