Bill to Increase Nebraska Career, Tech Ed Teachers Signed
Nebraska Ag Connection - 08/09/2018

President Donald Trump has signed the Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act into law. The bill reauthorizes the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Act, which funds education programs to help students and workers acquire the skills needed to find high-skill, high-paying jobs in the 21st century economy.

Senator Deb Fischer worked with Nebraskans on provisions in the legislation to increase the number of career education teachers in the state.

"Our nation has a skill gap problem. With improvements to career and technical education programs, we can help provide Nebraskans with the knowledge and skills to find good, high-paying jobs. As part of this process, I was grateful to work with Commissioner Matthew Blomstedt and the Nebraska Department of Education to improve career education opportunities for students across our state," said Fischer.

"I appreciate Sen. Fischer's engagement with Nebraska school leaders to ensure the new law supported Nebraska's strategies to grow the number of career education teachers. With teacher shortages in career education fields, the new law will allow states flexibility in use of funds to grow the field and capacity for the future," said Matthew Blomstedt, commissioner of education for Nebraska.
