Nebraska Extension is launching a six-part webinar series, “Knowing, Growing and Grazing Grass,” to help landowners, ranchers, and livestock producers improve their understanding of grassland management. The program begins on October 12 and will focus on identifying, growing, and managing grasses in pastures and rangelands.
The course is designed to support better decision-making in pasture productivity, grazing management, and forage sustainability. It will also address drought-related challenges and provide strategies for managing grasslands under changing environmental conditions.
Aaron Berger, Nebraska Extension educator and program coordinator, said the series aims to build practical knowledge of pasture and range management. Discussions will focus on key management principles and how producers can adapt to drought conditions.
Participants will learn about plant identification, pasture management practices, stocking rate calculations, and the use of tools such as the USDA Web Soil Survey and Rangeland Analysis Platform. The program will also cover grazing plan development and risk management through Pasture, Rangeland and Forage (PRF) insurance.
The webinars will feature interactive learning opportunities, including plant identification through participant-submitted photos. All sessions will be recorded, allowing attendees to review the content after each class.
Classes will be held on Monday and Thursday evenings from October 12 through October 29,2026 with two optional sessions offered during the program. Enrollment is limited to 30 participants to encourage engagement and discussion.
The registration fee is $100 per person and includes a copy of Grassland Plants of South Dakota and the Northern Great Plains as well as a printed resource notebook containing Nebraska Extension educational materials.
Nebraska Extension expects the series to help producers strengthen grazing management skills, improve pasture utilization, and enhance the long-term resilience of their operations.
