The Nebraska Women in Agriculture program is launching a new online educational opportunity titled Tax Strategies for Farms and Ranches. Beginning December 1, this self-paced course is designed to help producers build stronger tax management skills that support long-term financial success. The course is open to anyone involved in farm or ranch operations and offers easy-to-understand guidance tailored to agricultural needs.
The program focuses on helping participants take control of their tax planning. It explains key strategies that can be used throughout the year rather than at tax time alone. Course topics also help producers understand how good financial planning can improve overall business performance.
Participants will learn how to work more effectively with tax professionals by improving communication and planning. The course teaches how to build a reliable and organized record-keeping system that meets tax requirements while helping identify deductions and credits that may improve financial returns. A major goal is to shift thinking from simply lowering tax payments to planning in ways that increase long-term after-tax income.
Materials in the course come from trusted agricultural tax resources such as USDA, RuralTax.org, and the Center for Agricultural Profitability at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. These resources offer clear and practical information that supports producers at every experience level.
The importance of year-round planning is highlighted by the program director. As stated, “Taxes shouldn’t be something producers only think about once a year,” said Jessica Groskopf, Director of the Nebraska Women in Agriculture Program. “By taking a more strategic approach, producers can work more effectively with their tax professionals and make decisions that support the long-term success of their farm or ranch.”
The course is offered at no cost and is available only from December 1, 2025, through February 28, 2026. Those interested may enroll at https://go.unl.edu/ae. The program is supported through the Agri-Essentials initiative and funded by USDA/NIFA under Award Number 2024-70027-42470.
All participants are encouraged to join, regardless of background or experience, making this a valuable learning opportunity for the entire agricultural community.
