Rural Nebraska Makers Workshop Helps Entrepreneurs Grow

Rural Nebraska Makers Workshop Helps Entrepreneurs Grow

By Scout Nelson

Rural entrepreneurs often start with a hobby, family recipe, or side business, but turning those ventures into sustainable sources of income can be challenging. To support that growth, the Nebraska Regional Food Systems Initiative and Nebraska Extension are launching the Rural Nebraska Makers Workshop webinar series.

The program is designed to provide practical and affordable business education for rural entrepreneurs. Participants will gain valuable insights into business planning, profitability, expansion opportunities, and financial management.

The first webinar, scheduled for October,12,2026 will focus on pricing products and enterprise budgeting. Attendees will learn how to calculate production costs, including ingredients, packaging, labor, and vendor fees, while developing pricing strategies that support profitability.

The second session, on November,16,2026 will explore production scaling and business growth. Entrepreneurs will learn about expansion options, commercial kitchen resources, equipment planning, and opportunities to enter wholesale markets.

The final webinar, taking place December,14,2026 will cover tax basics for cottage food businesses. Topics include income reporting, record keeping, and tax preparation strategies that can help business owners stay organized throughout the year.

Each session costs $15 per person, making the program accessible to a wide range of entrepreneurs. The workshops are intended to help participants build confidence and develop the skills needed to grow their businesses successfully.

By addressing key topics such as pricing, business expansion, and tax management, the Rural Nebraska Makers Workshop series provides practical tools to help rural entrepreneurs strengthen operations and achieve long-term growth.
