SBA Welcomes Mittan as New District Director



The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA)announced the selection of Timothy R. Mittan, a Nebraska native, as its new district director for the Nebraska District SBA Office. Mittan is a former Economics and Entrepreneurship Instructor with Southeast Community College (SCC) in Lincoln and was the original founder and director of the SCC Entrepreneurship Center and Focus Suites for just over a decade. Mittan also spent 3 years as the Associate Director for the Los Angeles Regional Small Business Development Center Network (SBDC), a resource partner of the SBA, located in Long Beach, California.

Mittan received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Management from Peru State College and his Master of Arts in Management from Doane University. To become an Economics instructor at SCC, he continued his masters level education at the University of Colorado -- Colorado Springs where he focused his learning toward the Economics of Disasters and Environmental Economics.

In addition to his passion for entrepreneurship, education and economic development, Mittan has a flair for the dramatic. In his free time, he enjoys directing a local Improv comedy troupe, Occasionally Hilarious!, and teaches introductory and advanced level Improv classes.

The Nebraska District SBA office covers 93 counties in Nebraska and operates out of Omaha with 6 employees. In addition to assisting lending institutions throughout the state, with the administration of the SBA's various guaranteed loan programs, the District Office provides small business trainings and webinars, and offered over 120 such opportunities in the prior fiscal year.

The Nebraska District Office saw a record increase in lending activity in Nebraska in FY2021, with the total dollar amount of SBA loan guarantees rising to $243.7M. SBA loan totals for FY2021 include 344 7(a) program loans approved for $193,115,300; 77 504 program loans approved for $50,581,000; and 61 microloans approved for $1,281,407. Total COVID-19 pandemic relief in FY2021 included 70,810 Paycheck Protection Program loans for $1,937,788,407 and 15,173 EIDL program loans for $1,237,702,948.

The Nebraska District Office oversees 10 Small Business Development Center service locations, five SCORE chapters, and two SBA-funded Women's Business Centers located in Omaha and Grand Island.
