2024 Nebraska dry bean day set for February 13th

By Scout Nelson

The 2024 Nebraska Dry Bean Day, a key event for bean growers and enthusiasts, is scheduled for February 13. Hosted by the Nebraska Dry Bean Growers Association (NDBGA), this event will take place at the Gering Civic Center in Gering, Nebraska. The day's activities will commence with registration at noon, followed by an opportunity to explore various vendor booths.

The formal program kicks off at 1 p.m. with welcome addresses by Dan Hinman, NDBGA president, and Courtney Schuler, chair of the Nebraska Dry Bean Commission. The annual meeting and voting session for NDBGA members will follow soon after.

Key presentations include Hilary Maricle, Deputy Director of the Nebraska Department of Agriculture, and Chelsea Didinger, Ph.D., who will discuss "Bean Outreach." Bill Boyer, a renowned market manager and weather analyst, will provide a much-anticipated 2024 weather outlook.

Participants are encouraged to bring canned beans or other food items for donation to the Scottsbluff/Gering Soup Kitchen Board. Each donation entitles the donor to a raffle ticket, adding an element of excitement to the event. The day will conclude with a social hour at 5 p.m., featuring hors d'oeuvres, a cash bar, and continued vendor interactions.

This event is not just a meeting but a comprehensive experience for those involved in the dry bean industry in Nebraska. Interested individuals are reminded to register by February 9 and can do so via email at nebeangrower@allophone.com
