The Central Platte Natural Resources District (CPNRD) invites the public to attend the 2025 Annual Water Programs Update on February 11, 9:30 AM to 2:30 PM, at Bosselman Enterprises in Grand Island, Nebraska. This free event addresses critical water resource management issues and innovative irrigation strategies.
Event Highlights:
The day features expert speakers discussing various topics, including nitrogen management, groundwater levels, legal aspects of drainage, and weather predictions. The agenda includes:
- 9:30 AM: New nitrogen management phase areas and groundwater level comparisons by CPNRD experts.
- 10:45 AM: Legal aspects of drainage law by Attorney Don Blankenau.
- 11:15 AM: Nutrient management recommendations by Dr. Richard Ferguson from UNL.
- 12:30 PM: Nitrate health concerns by Dr. Jesse Bell from UNMC.
- 1 PM: Fertigation trials and cost-share opportunities presented by UNL specialists.
- 2 PM: 2025 weather outlook by meteorologist Mike Moritz.
Attendees will have the opportunity to earn continuing education credits (CEUs) for professional water well contractor licenses. Additionally, participation fulfills the nitrogen management certification requirement for CPNRD’s groundwater management program.
CPNRD General Manager Lyndon Vogt emphasized the importance of the event, stating, “This update is an excellent opportunity to engage with water professionals and make informed decisions while supporting sustainability.”
