Free Ag Land Leasing Workshop in Chadron

Free Ag Land Leasing Workshop in Chadron

By Scout Nelson

Nebraska producers negotiating land leases this fall face rising costs, evolving agreements, and new challenges in crop-share arrangements. To address these issues, Nebraska Extension is offering an Agricultural Land Leasing Workshop from 10 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, October 8, at Chadron State College’s Bordeaux Room.

The workshop will share the latest information on Nebraska’s agricultural land rental market, including current cash rental rates and crop-share lease considerations. It will also highlight common lease provisions that both landlords and tenants should understand, ensuring agreements are fair and practical.

Participants will hear from Nebraska Extension educators Jessica Groskopf and Brock Ortner, who will present findings from the 2025 Nebraska Farm Real Estate Survey. Their presentation will offer valuable insight into statewide rental trends, as well as tips for improving communication between landlords and tenants during lease negotiations.

The program is designed to provide practical strategies that support clear agreements and positive long-term relationships. By understanding the latest trends and provisions, both parties can negotiate with greater confidence and fairness.

The workshop is free of charge, but registration is required by October 6. Interested individuals can reserve a spot by calling the Dawes County Extension Office at 308-432-3373. If pre-registration numbers are low, the event may be canceled.

For additional details or assistance regarding the program, contact Nebraska Extension educator Brock Ortner at 308-327-2312.

By offering updated market data, clear guidance on lease terms, and communication strategies, the Chadron workshop aims to equip both landlords and tenants with the tools they need to make sound decisions in agricultural land leasing.
