Nebraska Governor Jim Pillen has extended emergency transportation relief to help livestock producers continue receiving hay and other essential supplies during ongoing drought and wildfire recovery efforts. The executive action supports agricultural operations facing limited livestock feed because of severe weather conditions across the state.
The Governor has reissued Executive Order 26-16, which allows commercial motor carriers transporting hay and other critical agricultural supplies to operate under temporary transportation flexibility. The order remains in effect through August 12, 2026, and is intended to improve the timely movement of feed and other necessary materials into affected areas.
Nebraska continues to face challenges from recent wildfires and persistent drought. These conditions have reduced pasture growth and hay production, making it difficult for many livestock producers to secure enough feed for their animals. By extending the executive order, the state aims to reduce transportation barriers and improve access to needed supplies.
Under the order, commercial carriers transporting hay and related agricultural products receive temporary relief from certain hours-of-service regulations. The order also relaxes over-dimension and weight restrictions, allowing carriers to move larger loads more efficiently while supporting producers dealing with emergency conditions.
The transportation flexibility is expected to help speed deliveries and reduce delays for ranchers and farmers who rely on outside feed sources. Faster transportation can improve access to hay while lowering some of the logistical challenges caused by drought and wildfire damage.
Executive Order 26-16 reflects Nebraska's continued effort to support agricultural communities during difficult weather conditions. The emergency measure helps ensure that livestock producers have better access to feed supplies while maintaining the movement of essential agricultural products throughout the state.
State officials encourage eligible carriers and agricultural businesses to review the executive order and follow all applicable safety requirements while using the temporary transportation relief.
