Roric Paulman, owner of Paulman Farms, brought together producers, researchers, agricultural technology leaders, and public-sector partners for the “Dirt, Data, Decisions” event near Sutherland, Nebraska, to explore new approaches to nitrogen and irrigation management and strengthen collaboration across the agricultural sector.
More than 110 attendees participated in the producer-focused event, which featured rapid presentations and networking opportunities. The gathering connected representatives from agricultural technology companies, startups, the University of Nebraska, state agencies, and commodity organizations.
Discussions centered on key topics including water management, precision nitrogen management, agricultural data, technology adoption, and innovation in farming. Participants examined how emerging technologies and data-driven tools can help producers make more informed management decisions.
Held on a working farm, the event allowed attendees to evaluate agricultural technologies under real production conditions. The setting encouraged practical conversations about the performance, value, and adoption of new tools designed to improve farm efficiency and sustainability.
Presentations covered a wide range of subjects, including irrigation technology, soil and crop sensing, remote sensing, artificial intelligence, robotics, on-farm research, biochar, ethanol, carbon intensity, and water stewardship. Speakers emphasized the importance of field testing, economic value, reliable support, and producer trust when adopting new technologies.
The event also highlighted collaboration among universities, government agencies, industry leaders, and producers. Researchers shared updates on digital agriculture initiatives, precision nutrient management, artificial intelligence applications, and other projects aimed at advancing agricultural innovation.
The conference concluded with a preview of the ONE RED Ag Data Bank & Grants Program, a Nebraska initiative supported by approximately $195 million in funding. The program is designed to encourage the adoption of precision agriculture technologies and improve irrigation, nutrient management, soil health, and water measurement practices across the state.
