Eastern red cedar encroachment is becoming a growing concern across Nebraska rangelands, reducing grazing acreage, affecting wildlife habitat, and increasing wildfire risks. To help address these challenges, a free Cedar Tree Management Meeting will be held at 5 p.m. CST on Aug. 12, 2026, in Trenton, Nebraska.
The meeting will provide information on how eastern red cedar trees spread and the impact they have on pasture productivity and native ecosystems. Experts will also discuss practical strategies for controlling tree growth and restoring rangeland health.
Participants will learn about wildfire mitigation practices that can help protect rural homes, ranches, and agricultural properties from the risks associated with dense cedar growth. The program will also cover cost-share and financial assistance opportunities available for cedar removal and land improvement projects.
Hosted by the Bird Conservancy of the Rockies and Nebraska Extension, the event will take place at the Trenton Community Room, 401 East First Street, Trenton, NE 69044. A free meal will be provided, and attendees are encouraged to RSVP in advance.
