UNL Seminar Highlights DeepTech for Sustainable Agriculture

UNL Seminar Highlights DeepTech for Sustainable Agriculture

By Scout Nelson

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) will host an October, 26, 2026, seminar focused on the role of emerging agricultural technologies in advancing sustainable and efficient farming practices. The event will explore innovations such as precision agriculture and laser-based weed control that are reshaping modern crop production.

The seminar, presented by Cornelia Weltzien, will examine both the benefits and challenges of advanced agricultural technologies. The discussion will focus on how these innovations can improve farm productivity, reduce environmental impacts, and support long-term sustainability.

As producers seek ways to increase efficiency and lower input costs, emerging technologies are becoming increasingly important. The presentation will highlight how DeepTech solutions can reduce pesticide use, improve resource management, and support diversified farming operations.

Weltzien is head of the Department of Agromechatronics at the Leibniz Institute for Agricultural Engineering and Bioeconomy (ATB) and also holds the Chair of Agromechatronics at Technische Universität Berlin (TU Berlin). Her research integrates engineering, automation, and agricultural science to address key challenges facing modern agriculture.

The seminar will begin at noon in Room 219 of Chase Hall on UNL's East Campus. Attendees will learn about the latest developments in agricultural technology and their potential applications in crop production and farm management.

Refreshments will be available beginning at 11:45 a.m., and lunch will be provided for in-person participants. Individuals who cannot attend in person may participate virtually by registering to receive the webinar link.

The event is organized by the Agricultural Research Division in partnership with the Nebraska Digital Agriculture Hub. The seminar aims to encourage discussions about innovative technologies and their role in supporting a more sustainable future for agriculture.
