Ground Broken on National High School Rodeo Expansion
Nebraska Ag Connection - 04/16/2018

Governor Pete Ricketts helped break ground on an expansion at the Lancaster Event Center (LEC) for the National High School Finals Rodeo (NHSFR). The expansion includes additions to the campground, expanding the outdoor arena, and adding a 3,500-seat covered grandstand.

"We look forward to hosting the world's largest rodeo in 2020 and 2021," said Ricketts. "There's no better place for a major rodeo than the home state of Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show. Agriculture is our number one industry, we're number one for beef, and rodeo is a rich part of our farm and ranch heritage. Competitors from around the world will receive a great big 'Nebraska welcome' during their stay in Lincoln for the National High School Finals Rodeo."

The NHSFR will bring around 1,700 youth and their families to Nebraska from 43 states and four countries including Canada, Mexico, and Australia. Between competitions, the youth in attendance will get a firsthand experience of the educational and career opportunities that Nebraska has to offer. The groundbreaking was also attended by National High School Rodeo Association (NHSRA) Executive Director James Higginbotham. Bringing the NHSFR to Nebraska was a joint effort involving the Governor, Lancaster County, Lancaster County Agricultural Society, and the Lincoln Convention and Visitors Bureau.
