The Nebraska State Fair is home to a must-visit attraction for meat lovers—the Beef Pit, renowned for its corn-fed beef that underscores Nebraska's status as an agricultural leader. This fair tradition draws long lines of patrons eager to sample some of the state’s finest beef offerings.
Meghan Anderson, a spokesperson for the event, shared that if fairgoers could choose only one meal at the fair, many would pick the Beef Pit. This spot has become a favorite among both locals and visitors, celebrated for its top-quality beef that showcases Nebraska's prowess from cow-calf production to cattle on feed and red meat production.
One of the highlights at the Beef Pit is the famous prime rib sandwich. According to Anderson, the sandwich is served perfectly cooked with no added seasonings, allowing the natural flavors of the beef to stand out, enhanced by the state's corn-fed approach.
Located at the front of the Expo Center, the Beef Pit relies on the collective effort of over 350 volunteers, including farmers, ranchers, and industry groups, especially highlighted on days when the Nebraska Corn Growers and Corn Board step in to help.
Besides offering a taste of Nebraska's finest, the Beef Pit also provides great value. For $15, visitors can enjoy a prime rib sandwich accompanied by corn, coleslaw, and a drink—a deal made even sweeter with coffee priced at only $1.50, noted by Anderson as the cheapest on the fairgrounds. This venue not only serves delicious food but also embodies the community spirit and agricultural pride of Nebraska.
