High Oleic Soybeans Drive New Farm Opportunities

High Oleic Soybeans Drive New Farm Opportunities

By Jamie Martin

A major advancement in soybean innovation has been achieved as Becks secures exclusive rights to SOYLEIC™ soybean technology. This step supports the expansion of high value soybean production and strengthens opportunities for farmers.

SOYLEIC™ soybeans are the result of years of farmer supported research. Scientists developed these varieties to produce oil with high oleic and low linolenic levels. This combination improves oil quality and usability.

“This is a major win for farmers,” said Casey Wasser, CEO and executive director of Missouri Soybeans. “SOYLEIC™ represents years of research, investment, and persistence. Beck’s acquisition validates that work and ensures this technology has a clear path to scale, stability, and long-term value.”

The oil derived from these soybeans offers a longer shelf life and better stability during cooking. It performs efficiently at high temperatures and removes the need for hydrogenation. These qualities increase their demand in food processing industries.

With Becks leading commercialization, the focus will be on expanding seed supply and ensuring proper crop placement. The company will also work to strengthen market connections so farmers can benefit from increased demand.

Beginning in 2027, farmers will have access to multiple soybean options under this program. These include both non-modified and advanced varieties with additional agronomic traits. This allows producers to select options best suited to their operations.

“This investment transitions SOYLEIC from a successful, farmer-funded research initiative into a scalable commercial product,” said Scott Beck, president of Beck's. “With our footprint across the U.S., the technology is now positioned to reach more farmers and deliver a consistent supply to processors and end users."

The naturally occurring trait used in SOYLEIC™ soybeans provides flexibility for future advancements. It also simplifies the process of combining new technologies without major regulatory barriers.

Farmers can expect improved access to specialty markets, stronger confidence in product performance, and new income opportunities. This initiative supports value added agriculture and aligns production with consumer needs.

In summary, the expansion of SOYLEIC™ soybeans represents a practical step toward improving farm profitability and strengthening the agricultural economy.
