LRP Insurance Webinar Highlights Cattle Risk Strategies

LRP Insurance Webinar Highlights Cattle Risk Strategies

By Scout Nelson

Livestock Risk Protection (LRP) insurance has become a widely used risk management tool for cattle producers, helping protect against declines in cattle prices. Program enhancements, higher premium subsidies and improved accessibility have made LRP more attractive to livestock operations.

An upcoming webinar will examine the growth of the LRP program and its role in managing price risk. The session will review participation trends in Nebraska and explore how producers use the program to help maintain profitability during volatile market conditions.

Drawing on more than two decades of historical data, the webinar will highlight periods when LRP delivered the greatest value to producers. Participants will also learn how indemnity payments have compared with premium costs over time.

The discussion will cover recent policy changes that have expanded access to LRP coverage, particularly for beginning and smaller-scale cattle producers. These updates have strengthened the program as a tool for managing market uncertainty.

Designed for both new and experienced users, the webinar will offer practical guidance on incorporating LRP into broader marketing and risk management strategies. The session will be presented by Jay Parsons, professor, farm and ranch management specialist, and director of the Center for Agricultural Profitability.
