Constructive dialogue about food and agriculture will take center stage at the March 3 Heuermann Lecture. Tamar Haspel, food columnist for The Washington Post, will deliver the presentation at Nebraska Innovation Campus as part of the Department of Agronomy and Horticulture’s IMPACT 2026 Conference.
Her presentation is titled “The Elephant in the Room: Building Bridges for Better Agricultural Solutions.” During the lecture, she will discuss how open and respectful conversations can help address difficult issues in food production, sustainability, and agricultural policy.
On March 3, activities will begin earlier in the day with the Water and Integrated Cropping Systems Conference at the Nebraska East Union from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Later that afternoon at 4 p.m., Haspel will present the Heuermann Lecture at the Nebraska Innovation Campus Conference Center, located at 2021 Transformation Drive.
Following the lecture, faculty, staff, students and stakeholders are invited to attend the Agronomy and Horticulture IMPACT 2026 Conference kickoff mixer at 6 p.m. The full conference will take place on March 4 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The theme is “Innovation and Partnerships for the Future.” The event will highlight achievements in teaching, research and extension while encouraging collaboration with industry, agencies, and community partners.
The Heuermann Lecture series, organized by the University of Nebraska Lincoln Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources, focuses on sustainability in food, natural resources and renewable energy.
