Beef producers, agricultural professionals, students, and industry stakeholders will gather in Kearney, Nebraska, on December 9, 2026, for the Nebraska Beef Summit. Hosted by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and organized by university students, the event will be held alongside the Nebraska Cattlemen Convention and Trade Show at the Younes Convention Center.
The summit will bring together researchers, veterinarians, economists, industry experts, and cattle producers to discuss challenges and opportunities across the beef supply chain. Key topics will include herd rebuilding, heifer retention, cattle health, carcass value, and international market trends.
A major focus of the event will be the future of beef production and the factors shaping industry sustainability. Speakers will explore trends affecting cattle performance, profitability, and long-term management strategies.
One featured session will examine the industry's shift toward heavier finishing weights and the potential implications for producers and processors. Another presentation will focus on the importance of export markets and their role in supporting the strength and competitiveness of the U.S. beef industry.
As many producers consider rebuilding and expanding their herds, the summit will also provide guidance on heifer development and retention strategies. Experts will discuss management practices, market conditions, and economic factors that can influence replacement-heifer decisions.
Additional educational sessions will cover emerging technologies and cattle-health challenges. Topics include autonomous feed trucks, mineral nutrition programs, Beef Quality Assurance practices, heart failure risks in beef cattle, generational transition planning, bovine theileriosis, and the growing concern surrounding the Asian longhorned tick.
The one-day event will begin with registration and networking at 8 a.m. on December 9, 2026, followed by educational presentations starting at 8:15 a.m. Programming is scheduled to continue throughout the day and conclude at approximately 5:15 p.m.
By bringing together expertise from academia, industry organizations, and cattle producers, the Nebraska Beef Summit aims to provide practical insights that help operations address current challenges and prepare for future opportunities. The event also highlights the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's ongoing commitment to advancing the beef industry through education, research, and industry engagement.
