Nebraska Hosts Monthly Weather Update

By Scout Nelson

The Nebraska State Climate Office will be hosting a recurring event called the First Friday Update and Weather Outlook. This session will take place on the first Friday of every month from April 2026 through June 2028. The upcoming session is scheduled for April 3, 2026, from 9:00 am to 9:30 am.

The event will be held at Hardin Hall, Room 107 South, also known as the Platte River Auditorium, located in Lincoln, Nebraska. It will also be available online, making it easy for participants to join from any location.

This monthly program is open to a wide audience, including students, faculty, staff, alumni, and the public. It is designed to provide useful weather and climate information in a simple and clear format.

The session will be led by Eric Hunt, Assistant Extension Educator in Agricultural Meteorology and Climate Resilience, along with Deborah Bathke, State Climatologist and Climate Scientist. Together, they will present a half-hour update on current weather conditions and provide forecasts for the coming month.

Participants will learn about climate patterns at the state, regional, and global levels. These updates are helpful for farmers, as weather plays a key role in crop growth and farm planning. Understanding climate trends can help improve decisions related to planting, irrigation, and harvesting.

The event is part of the School of Natural Resources seminars and discussions series. It focuses on sharing scientific knowledge in an easy way so that everyone can benefit from it.

Those interested in joining the virtual session can access it through the official website.

This event provides a valuable opportunity to stay informed about weather changes and climate conditions. Regular updates help individuals and communities prepare for future challenges and make better choices in agriculture and daily life.
