USDA offers several disaster assistance and recovery programs to help farmers and ranchers manage drought-related losses. These programs provide financial support for livestock producers, crop growers, and other agricultural operations affected by challenging conditions.
The Livestock Forage Disaster Program (LFP) provides compensation to eligible livestock producers who experience grazing losses due to drought. It helps offset the impact of reduced forage availability on covered livestock.
The Emergency Assistance for Livestock, Honeybees, and Farm-Raised Fish Program (ELAP) offers support for losses caused by feed and water shortages, disease, adverse weather, and other emergencies not covered by other disaster programs. The program is designed to address a variety of agricultural losses.
The Emergency Loan Program provides low-interest financing to producers in disaster-designated counties. These loans can help farmers and ranchers recover from production losses and restore normal operations.
The Emergency Conservation Program (ECP) helps fund emergency conservation measures, including livestock water systems and irrigation improvements. The program supports efforts to protect agricultural resources during drought conditions.
The Tree Assistance Program (TAP) provides financial assistance to eligible orchardists and nursery tree growers for losses of trees, shrubs, and vines caused by drought and other natural disasters.
USDA's Farm Service Agency and Natural Resources Conservation Service have also shared information on available drought assistance programs through educational outreach efforts. Producers seeking additional information are encouraged to contact their local FSA office or explore USDA disaster assistance resources.
