Mark your calendars for an educational outing at the Haskell Agricultural Laboratory on April 30, 2024, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. This event, located at 57905 866 Road, Concord, NE 68728, is dedicated to showcasing fall-planted cover crops and their integration into sustainable agriculture practices.
Participants will have the opportunity to tour plots featuring a variety of cover crops such as rye, triticale, wheat, barley, oats, hairy vetch, various brassicas, and several mixed cultivations.
The tour will highlight two specific demonstrations: the use of cereal rye cover crops to assess fertilizer nitrogen equivalence and integrated nutrient management strategies comparing manure with commercial nitrogen fertilizers.
The field day will focus on practical applications of cover crops in achieving different management goals, including soil health enhancement and water quality improvement. These plots are part of the Haskell Ag Lab's long-term research into tillage, crop rotation, and nutrient management.
This free program is an ideal opportunity for farmers, agricultural students, and anyone interested in the benefits of cover cropping. Refreshments will be provided, ensuring a comfortable and informative experience for all attendees.
