Star Seed Event Highlights Forage Research and Crop Insights

Nebraska Extension and Star Seed will provide producers with an opportunity to compare 14 warm-season forage varieties during the Warm Season Forage Field Day on Aug. 27 near Broken Bow, Nebraska. The event is designed to help livestock and crop producers evaluate forage performance and management practices through hands-on field demonstrations.

A featured presenter will be Nicolas Cafáro La Menza, Nebraska Extension cropping systems specialist and assistant professor in the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Department of Agronomy and Horticulture. He will share results from two years of local on-farm summer forage research and discuss forage productivity, resource-use efficiency, and variety performance under regional conditions.

Attendees will tour replicated trial plots showcasing 14 warm-season forage varieties and learn about agronomic management, forage production, and cropping system considerations. The educational program and field tour will be held from 10 a.m. to noon with Nebraska Extension specialists and industry experts available for discussion.

Following the field tour, participants can attend a hosted lunch and networking reception at Kinkaider Brewing Co. in Broken Bow from noon to 2 p.m. The event will provide an opportunity for producers and industry professionals to exchange ideas and discuss forage production opportunities and challenges.
