The Fiber Broadband Association (FBA) recently hosted a Regional Fiber Connect event in Nebraska, bringing together policymakers, agricultural organizations, technology leaders, and industry stakeholders. The event focused on the growing role of fiber broadband in digital agriculture, artificial intelligence, and rural economic development.
Discussions centered on how reliable, high-speed connectivity is helping modernize farming operations, strengthen rural communities, and support long-term economic growth. Industry leaders emphasized the importance of expanding broadband infrastructure to keep rural areas competitive in an increasingly connected economy.
Ahead of the conference, FBA hosted a Fiber Policy Lab session titled “Fiber to the Field: How Fiber Broadband is Powering Rural Innovation.” The session brought together broadband providers, policymakers, and community leaders to discuss deployment challenges and opportunities for expanding fiber access in rural regions.
Participants explored policy issues, infrastructure development strategies, and the value of collaboration among local, state, and federal stakeholders. The discussions highlighted the need for strong partnerships to improve broadband availability and support innovation across rural America.
The event also examined the growing use of precision agriculture and connected technologies in farming. As agricultural operations become increasingly data-driven, reliable broadband is essential for supporting real-time analytics, connected equipment, and AI-enabled applications.
Conference sessions covered topics including digital agriculture, artificial intelligence, robotics, precision farming, fiber deployment, and the economic impact of rural connectivity. These discussions showcased how advanced broadband networks can help improve productivity and create new opportunities for agricultural producers.
Featured speakers included FBA CEO Gary Bolton, EPB Vice President Evann Freeman, and USDA representative Dr. Scott Hutchins. Additional participants represented organizations such as Google, GFiber, Tech Nebraska, the Nebraska Farm Bureau, Core Bank, and North Dakota State University.
The Fiber Broadband Association continues to advocate for expanded fiber broadband deployment across the United States. The organization believes that advanced connectivity is critical to driving innovation, economic development, and improved quality of life in rural communities.
