East campus discovery days return

By Scout Nelson

The University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s East Campus is gearing up for its popular East Campus Discovery Days, scheduled for June 8, July 13, and August 10 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

These events, open to the public, are designed to showcase the Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources' research and outreach activities, while providing fun and educational experiences for visitors of all ages.

Jordan Slagle, the event manager, emphasizes the value of these days, “It’s a free opportunity for kids and families to learn in a safe and comfortable environment.”

Attendees can look forward to a range of activities including food trucks, live music, and booths selling items like fresh flowers and handmade jewelry.

Highlights for children include the Rodeo Club booth where they can practice roping skills, and various student-run business booths from the university's Engler Agribusiness Entrepreneurship Program.

The East Campus Mall will host over 50 booths, with applications still open for the July and August dates. Interested vendors can register online by visiting East Campus Discovery Days and clicking on the “Join Us” tab.

Each event promises staple activities and new booths, ensuring fresh experiences for repeat visitors. Noteworthy among these is the 2024 BugFest by the Department of Entomology, aligning with the August 10 event.

Despite ongoing construction at the Legacy Meadow, the events will proceed rain or shine, providing an ideal outing for families and individuals interested in agriculture and natural sciences.
