As the 2024 crop production season kicks off, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) will reach out to producers across the nation to assess their plans for the upcoming growing season.
NASS' Northern Plains Regional Director, Nicholas Streff, emphasizes the significance of the March Agricultural Survey, a crucial precursor to the highly anticipated Prospective Plantings report. This survey, conducted annually, collects essential data that forms the basis for U.S. farmers' planting intentions.
Scheduled for late February, the survey questionnaire will inquire about the types of crops intended for planting in 2024, anticipated acreage, and the quantities of stored grain and oilseed on farms. Producers are encouraged to respond online or by mail, with the option of a telephone interview for non-respondents by the deadline.
NASS prioritizes respondent privacy, assuring the publication of only aggregate data to safeguard individual operations or producers from identification. This initiative plays a pivotal role in providing accurate and comprehensive insights into the nation's agricultural landscape.
