NEBRASKA WEATHER

Firearm Dear Hunting Season is Nov. 13-21

It's almost gone time. Nebraska's nine-day firearm deer season starts this Saturday (Nov. 13 through the 21), and you will want to be part of it.

If you haven't purchased a permit, some over-the-counter firearm unit permits remain available, as are season choice permits and $8 permits for youth. Looking for a place to hunt? Consult our Public Access Atlas, available online or in print wherever permits are sold.

As you plan your hunt, here are a few things to keep in mind:

- All deer hunters must wear hunter orange while hunting during the nine-day firearm deer season.

- Brush up on bag limits, regulations and more with the Big Game Guide.

- Harvested deer must be checked-in no later than 1 p.m. on the day after the close of the firearm deer season. Telecheck is not allowed during the firearm deer season.

- Find a check station near you on our website, or via this interactive map.

Do something good for Nebraskans in need -- support Hunters Helping the Hungry with a cash donation when you buy your deer permit, or with an online donation.

Monetary donations help fund the program and pay for the processing of deer donated by hunters to be distributed by food pantries statewide. Thanks to generous donations over the years, Hunters Helping the Hungry has provided more than 700,000 meals of venison. (And every dollar counts: a $10 gift makes 22 meals!)

Another way to give back is by participating in the Deer Exchange. Donate your extra harvest by signing up for this database and search for potential recipients in your area.
