Recovering from disasters such as wildfires, droughts, and floods often brings complex tax challenges for farmers and ranchers in addition to rebuilding their operations. To help tax and legal professionals support agricultural producers, the Nebraska Tax Institute at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln will host the “Farm Disaster Tax Rules: Deferrals, Casualty Losses, Recovery Payments and Tax Reporting” webinar on Aug. 27.2026
The four-hour webinar will focus on federal tax rules related to disaster-related losses and recovery. Led by agricultural tax experts Tina Barrett of Nebraska Farm Business Inc. and Mark Dikeman of the Kansas Farm Management Association, the program will provide practical guidance on key issues affecting producers after natural disasters.
Participants will learn about livestock deferral provisions, casualty losses, involuntary conversions, insurance reimbursements, recovery payments, and tax reporting requirements.
The webinar will also help professionals understand how disaster-related tax decisions can affect a producer’s long-term financial recovery, including future taxes, depreciation, and asset management.
Registration is $175, and continuing education credits are being sought in Nebraska and Kansas. The program is part of the Nebraska Tax Institute’s ongoing efforts to provide specialized agricultural tax education and support rural communities affected by disaster events.
