Nebraska Workshop Focuses on Water and Crop Management

By Scout Nelson

Farmers and agriculture professionals will gather in Davenport, Nebraska, for the “From Water to Yield Practical Systems That Work Workshop” on June 11. The event focuses on helping producers improve water and nutrient management through practical tools, research, and field experience.

Nebraska Extension and several agriculture industry partners organize the workshop to support better irrigation practices, improve crop productivity, and encourage long-term sustainability on farms. The event will take place at the Davenport Community Center and runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., with registration beginning at 9:30 a.m.

The workshop brings together producers, researchers, industry leaders, and agricultural stakeholders to discuss current challenges and solutions in modern farming systems. Attendees will learn about water movement in soil, irrigation systems, nitrogen management, and technology tools that support better farm decisions.

One presentation highlights irrigation management research at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln South Central Agricultural Laboratory. Another session explains how subsurface drip irrigation systems move water through the soil and support crop growth. Experts will also discuss water quality and fertigation practices that help producers apply nutrients more efficiently.

The program includes information about ACREE, Nebraska’s free irrigation scheduling application. The app helps farmers monitor irrigation needs and improve water use efficiency during the growing season. Producers will also hear updates about in-season nitrogen management and new developments from the Little Blue Natural Resources District.

A farmer panel is another important part of the workshop. Area producers will share how they use management tools and field practices to improve irrigation scheduling and nitrogen decisions on their farms. Their experiences provide practical examples that other producers can apply in their own operations.

There is no cost to attend the workshop, and meals are provided through sponsor support. Organizers encourage registration to assist with meal planning. Register online or by calling 402-762-3644. The workshop also highlights cooperation between universities, conservation groups, agribusiness companies, and local agriculture organizations working together to support efficient and sustainable farming practices in Nebraska.
