New CLAAS Research Center Strengthens Nebraska Agriculture

New CLAAS Research Center Strengthens Nebraska Agriculture

By Scout Nelson

CLAAS has strengthened its commitment to Nebraska and North American agriculture with the opening of a new Research and Development (R&D) Center in Omaha. The facility marks a major step in the company's long-term growth strategy and reinforces Nebraska's role as a hub for agricultural innovation, engineering, and advanced manufacturing.

The new center officially opened on October 8, 2026, during a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by Nebraska Governor Jim Pillen, CLAAS executives, employees, and community leaders. The investment is part of CLAAS' broader $100 million North American growth strategy, focused on developing agricultural equipment tailored to farming conditions across the United States and Canada.

The Omaha R&D Center is located on the expanding CLAAS campus, which also includes the company's North American headquarters, the LEXION combine assembly facility, and the CLAAS Training Academy. Together, these operations have made Omaha one of CLAAS' most important locations outside Germany and further strengthened Nebraska's position in agricultural technology development.

Governor Pillen highlighted CLAAS' continued investment in the state and noted that the company has been a major employer in the region for more than 25 years. He said the expansion will help boost Nebraska's economy, create skilled jobs, and support the state's strong agricultural sector.

The new facility spans 44,800 square feet, including approximately 12,000 square feet of enclosed space, and offers 25% more capacity than the company's previous off-site research location. The center includes expanded office space, advanced testing and instrumentation areas, logistics facilities, a heated indoor wash bay, and enhanced security systems.

The Omaha facility will serve as the headquarters for CLAAS' North American testing activities. Engineers will analyze data collected from equipment operating in a wide range of farming environments across the United States and Canada to improve machine performance under varying crops, soils, climates, and production systems.

Claudius Knierbein, Head of Engineering for CLAAS Omaha, said the new center will enhance the company's ability to develop, test, and refine technologies that meet the specific needs of North American farmers. He noted that local testing and engineering analysis will help deliver machinery designed for real-world farming conditions.

With more than 250 employees on the Omaha campus, the new R&D center further strengthens the city's role in agricultural innovation, manufacturing, workforce development, and customer support. The investment underscores Nebraska's growing importance to the future of North American agriculture and CLAAS' long-term commitment to the region.
