Workshop to Explore Craft Brewing Careers, Fermentation Science Minor

An April 1 workshop at Nebraska Innovation Campus will offer students the chance to learn about the art of brewing and a new minor in fermentation science.

The Craft Brewing workshop is sponsored by the Food Processing Center, Nebraska Craft Brewery Board and the Nebraska Craft Brewers Guild. It will feature guest speakers from breweries; career presentations by hospitality and ingredient suppliers; a tour of the Food Processing Center’s pilot plant; and an overview of brewing equipment available on campus.

“This workshop is a great opportunity for students-whether their interest is in food science, biological engineering, microbiology, hospitality or entrepreneurship,” said Terry Howell Jr., executive director of the Food Processing Center. “The FPC has great facilities and equipment which will facilitate the new Fermentation Science minor.

“I am hopeful we can use this workshop as a chance to expose UNL students to a wide variety of career options.”

All participants will receive a $100 stipend for attending.

“We are able to offer students stipends for attending through a grant from the Nebraska Craft Brewery Board,” said Andy Rasmussen, microbiologist and fermentation scientist. “We’ve assembled some great guest speakers who can share a wealth of practical experience.”

Advanced registration is required. Learn more information at https://fpc.unl.edu/fermentation-workshop-registration
