Celebrating its 15th year, the Daugherty Water for Food Global Institute (DWFI) has released its annual report, emphasizing its sustained commitment to enhancing global food and water security.
This year’s report showcases the launch of a new $40 million USAID-funded lab focusing on irrigation and mechanization in the Global South, aiming to foster vibrant agricultural markets.
The report highlights the expansion of DWFI’s water management tools, including a network of flux towers across multiple states. These towers provide crucial data on crop water usage and carbon emissions, aiding in water management and supporting interstate water agreements.
DWFI’s contributions to significant publications this year, including the Fifth National Climate Assessment and studies on drought and health, underline its role in shaping global understanding of water and climate issues.
The institute has also enriched its academic community, welcoming 14 new Faculty Fellows and supporting 31 students engaged in mission-critical research.
Looking ahead, DWFI will host its Water for Food Global Conference in Lincoln, Nebraska, from April 28 to May 2, 2025. “Together, we can create a more water and food secure world, ensuring a sustainable and prosperous future for generations to come,” stated Peter G. McCornick, executive director of DWFI.
