Nebraska Extension will host a free crop scouting clinic on Thursday, Dec. 5, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. MST at the Stumpf International Wheat Center in Grant, Nebraska. Led by extension educators Samantha Daniel and Ruby Collins, this workshop is designed for those in agriculture interested in learning or enhancing their crop scouting skills.
The clinic will cover key insect pests and diseases affecting crops in southwest Nebraska, with specific sessions on identifying and managing issues like western bean cutworm, wheat stem sawfly, bacterial leaf streak, and white mold. Attendees will participate in hands-on activities, including a mock scouting setup where they can practice newly learned skills.
Each participant will receive helpful tools, such as a macro lens for their phone to aid in close-up inspections and a binder containing all the clinic materials for future reference. Door prizes will also be offered, adding an extra incentive to attend.
Lunch is provided, making it a full day of learning and practical experience at no cost. Those interested can register by contacting the Stumpf Center at (308) 352-4320 or the Red Willow Extension office at (308) 345-3390.
