National Leaders Unveil Farm Security Action Plan

By Scout Nelson

Nebraska Governor Jim Pillen will join top federal and state leaders in Washington, D.C., to announce the launch of the National Farm Security Action Plan, a major initiative by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) aimed at safeguarding the nation’s agricultural systems from foreign threats.

The announcement will take place at 8:00 a.m. (CT) tomorrow from the USDA Whitten Building. Governor Pillen will stand alongside several high-ranking officials including Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins, Secretary of Defense Pet Hegseth, Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem, Attorney General Pam Bondi, Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders, and Tennessee Governor Bill Lee.

This new national action plan is designed to strengthen America’s food production infrastructure and defend against potential foreign threats targeting agriculture.

The program will coordinate across federal, state, and local agencies to bolster security, intelligence, and rapid response capabilities.

"Protecting American agriculture is not just a rural issue—it’s a national security priority," said Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins.

The plan emphasizes proactive monitoring, biosecurity investments, and information sharing to ensure that threats to livestock, crops, and agricultural supply chains are detected and addressed swiftly.

The inclusion of governors and national security officials highlights the broad support for this initiative and its importance across political and geographic lines.

Leaders believe this united approach will help secure the future of America’s food system and support farmers nationwide.

The USDA’s National Farm Security Action Plan reflects a commitment to preserving the stability of U.S. agriculture and rural economies while addressing emerging risks in today’s global landscape.
