Nebraska agricultural producers affected by recent wildfires and high winds now have access to additional federal assistance. The U.S. Department of Agriculture has issued a natural disaster designation for four counties, allowing eligible producers to apply for emergency loans.
Garden, Grant, Lincoln, and Morrill counties are listed as primary natural disaster areas. Producers in these counties who experience qualifying losses may use USDA Farm Service Agency emergency loans to help recover from the effects of the disaster.
Emergency loan funds can support several recovery needs. Eligible producers may use the loans to replace essential equipment or livestock, reorganize their farming operations or refinance certain existing debts. The assistance is intended to help agricultural businesses recover and continue operating after disaster-related losses.
Applications are reviewed based on several factors. These include the amount of disaster-related damage, the applicant's available security, and the ability to repay the loan. Producers should contact their, local Farm Service Agency office for detailed information about eligibility and application requirements.
The application deadline for this disaster assistance is March 8, 2027.
In addition to the four primary counties, producers in nearby counties may also qualify for assistance. The contiguous counties include Arthur, Banner, Box Butte, Cherry, Cheyenne, Custer, Dawson, Deuel, Frontier, Hayes, Hooker, Keith, Logan, McPherson, Perkins, Scotts Bluff and Sheridan.
The disaster designation provides an important financial option for producers working to recover from wildfire and wind damage. Emergency loans can help farmers and ranchers replace critical resources and maintain their operations while they recover.
Producers in the affected areas should review the program requirements and apply before the deadline. Early contact with the Farm Service Agency can help producers understand available assistance and prepare the required document.
