Nebraska Businesses Can Apply for SBA Loans

By Scout Nelson

The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has announced the availability of low-interest federal disaster loans for Nebraska small businesses, private nonprofits, and residents affected by the severe storms and flooding of June 25-26, 2025.

This announcement follows a disaster declaration issued after a request from Governor Jim Pillen on July 24, 2025. The declaration covers the counties of Adams, Buffalo, Hall, Hamilton, Howard, and Merrick.

Small businesses and nonprofits can apply for business physical disaster loans, which may be used to repair or replace disaster-damaged property, machinery, equipment, and inventory. Loans can be up to $2 million.

Homeowners and renters are also eligible for loans to replace or repair personal property, such as clothing, furniture, cars, and appliances, with loans of up to $100,000. Additionally, homeowners may borrow up to $500,000 to repair or replace their primary residence.

The SBA also offers loan increases for mitigation improvements, such as weather stripping, storm windows, or insulation. This ensures better protection from future disasters.

The Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) program is available to eligible small businesses, agricultural cooperatives, nurseries, and nonprofits impacted by financial losses due to the disaster. However, agricultural producers, farmers, and ranchers are not eligible for these loans unless they are involved in aquaculture.

Interest rates for the loans start as low as 4% for small businesses, 3.625% for nonprofits, and 2.813% for homeowners and renters. Loan terms can be up to 30 years, and no payments are due for 12 months after the first disbursement.

“When disasters strike, SBA’s Disaster Loan Outreach Centers play a vital role in helping small businesses and their communities recover,” said Chris Stallings, Associate Administrator of the Office of Disaster Recovery and Resilience at the SBA.

SBA customer service representatives will be available at Disaster Loan Outreach Centers starting at noon on Wednesday, July 30. They will assist with loan applications and explain the recovery programs available.
