Nebraska’s Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources will host three Discovery Days events this summer on East Campus. The free programs are designed to help families and youth explore agriculture, science, entrepreneurship, and the natural world through hands on learning activities and educational exhibits.
The events will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. around the East Campus loop and nearby spaces. Organizers say the programs will connect visitors with research, innovation, and educational opportunities that support Nebraska agriculture and natural resources.
“Discovery Days are all about creating opportunities for families to learn together while experiencing the innovation, creativity and community that make East Campus special,” said Jordan Slagle, events and outreach manager for the Institute of Agricultural and Natural Resources. “Each event offers a unique way for youth to engage with science, agriculture and hands-on learning.”
The first Discovery Day event is scheduled for June 13 in partnership with the Tractor Restoration Club. Families will have opportunities to explore vintage tractors, restoration projects, and historic agricultural equipment. Visitors can also meet collectors and learn more about Nebraska’s farming heritage and agricultural traditions.
The second event, called Kids Market Child Entrepreneurs, will take place on July 11. Young participants will display and sell products such as crafts, baked goods, and creative business projects. Organizers say the event encourages innovation, leadership, and entrepreneurial learning among youth.
The final Discovery Day event, Bug Fest, is planned for Aug. 8. Families can participate in insect themed activities, educational displays, and interactive science exhibits focused on insects, pollinators, and Nebraska ecosystems. Visitors will also have opportunities to interact with scientists, view insect collections, and learn about entomology in a fun environment.
University officials say Discovery Days are designed to create enjoyable educational experiences while helping children and families better understand agriculture, science, and natural resources. The summer programs continue to provide engaging opportunities for community learning across Nebraska.
