Nebraska 4-H Program Supports Livestock Leadership

By Scout Nelson

The Nebraska 4-H Livestock Achievement Program continues providing youth with opportunities to develop leadership, responsibility, and livestock management skills through hands-on learning experiences. The program recognizes outstanding 4-H members who participate in livestock projects and complete achievement requirements throughout the year.

Nebraska 4-H offers the program across several livestock project areas, including beef, sheep, meat goat, swine, dairy cattle, dairy goat, rabbit, and poultry. Youth participants work through project activities that encourage planning, goal setting, record keeping, and reporting accomplishments connected to their livestock experiences.

The program includes three age divisions to support different experience levels. Categories include youth ages 8 to 10, 11 to 13, and 14 to 18. Each participant must complete project-related activities and submit an application showing achievements and involvement within their livestock projects.

Program organizers encourage youth to apply by the June 15 deadline. Members who successfully complete the program and earn Member of Excellence recognition will receive special recognition during the Grand Drive event held during 4-H weekend at the Nebraska State Fair.

The livestock achievement program helps young people build important life skills while learning more about agriculture and animal care. Through participation, youth strengthen communication, leadership, teamwork, responsibility, and decision-making abilities that may benefit them in future education and career opportunities.

Livestock projects also help participants gain practical experience in animal management, nutrition, health care, and daily responsibility. The program encourages youth to stay involved in agriculture while recognizing their hard work and dedication throughout the year.

Nebraska 4-H continues supporting agricultural education and youth development programs that connect students with valuable learning opportunities across the state. Additional program details, application requirements, and registration information are available through the Nebraska 4-H Livestock Achievement Program website.
