Nebraska Farmers need Farm Bill Support

Nebraska Farmers need Farm Bill Support

By Scout Nelson

The National Farmers Union (NFU) has called on Congress to act swiftly to address the needs of Nebraska farmers and rural communities before the year ends. With mounting challenges in agriculture, NFU President Rob Larew expressed frustration over Congress's inaction and emphasized the urgency of passing a farm bill extension with critical economic and disaster aid.

“Family farmers and ranchers across the country are battling relentless challenges. Despite these mounting pressures, Congress has failed to act and appears ready to leave town without securing critical support for farmers,” said Larew.

The NFU has been advocating for an extension of the farm bill to ensure Nebraska farmers have access to essential support programs. Without this extension, economic relief and disaster assistance remain uncertain for rural communities that rely on agriculture for stability.

Challenges Facing Nebraska Farmers

Farmers in Nebraska are grappling with unpredictable weather, fluctuating market conditions, and rising operational costs. A failure to secure immediate legislative action could further impact their livelihoods.

Larew highlighted the need for Congress to fulfill its responsibilities to rural America, stating, “Time is running out to secure a deal before the end of the year. Lawmakers must not walk away from their responsibility to rural America.”

The NFU has encouraged its members in Nebraska to contact their elected representatives and demand action before Congress adjourns. Larew urged lawmakers to stay committed to delivering the necessary support to farmers, ranchers, and rural businesses.

By securing a farm bill extension, Nebraska farmers can access vital resources to navigate ongoing challenges, ensuring the state’s agriculture sector remains resilient and sustainable. The NFU remains steadfast in its mission to advocate for rural communities and promote long-term stability for agriculture.
