Nebraska Students Promote Native Plants

By Scout Nelson

The University of Nebraska Lincoln Range Management Club is organizing a native perennial plant sale from April 30 to May 2. The event will run daily from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Teaching Greenhouse East located on East Campus, 3850 Center Street, Lincoln.

This plant sale offers a variety of native perennial plants, including grasses and wildflowers. Grasses will be available for $3, while wildflowers will be sold for $4. Buyers can make payments using cash, cards, or check, making the process convenient for all visitors.

The Range Management Club is a recognized student organization at the University of Nebraska Lincoln. It connects students who are interested in understanding and managing a range of ecosystems. Through activities and programs, the club helps students learn about the science and practical aspects of land and ecosystem management.

Plant sales play an important role in supporting the club’s educational goals. Funds raised from the event help students travel to important meetings organized by the Nebraska Society for Range Management and the International Society for Range Management. These events provide valuable learning and networking opportunities.

Students participating in these programs take part in several academic and skill-based competitions. These include the Undergraduate Range Management Exam, Range Plant Identification Contest, Undergraduate Public Speaking Contest, and the Undergraduate Student Paper Session. Such activities help students improve their knowledge, communication skills, and confidence.

By purchasing plants from this sale, visitors not only get affordable and environmentally beneficial plants but also contribute to student development and education. The event encourages community involvement while supporting future professionals in agriculture and environmental management.

The sale is expected to attract students, educators, and community members interested in native plants and sustainable practices. It highlights the importance of education, conservation, and hands-on learning experiences.
