Nebraska farmers had about 6.2 days suitable for fieldwork in the week ending on October 22, 2023, as noted by the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. A look at the moisture supplies reveals topsoil levels with 22% very short, 30% short, 43% adequate, and a surplus of 5%. Similarly, subsoil conditions were 27% very short, 35% short, 35% adequate, and a 3% surplus.
Delving into the specifics of the crops:
Corn had a 62% harvest rate, matching last year and surpassing the five-year average of 51%.
Soybeans, on the other hand, saw an 83% harvest, slightly lagging behind last year's 91% but aligning closely with a 79% average.
Winter wheat showed promise with a 9% rating as excellent and 89% emergence, which is better than both last year and the general average.
Sorghum's state was commendable with 25% rated excellent, and a 99% maturity rate. This crop's harvest stood at 54%, which is on par with averages.
Lastly, 92% of dry edible beans were harvested, staying close to last year's pace.
Assessing pastures and ranges, conditions were a mix, with 8% rated excellent, 36% good, 38% fair, and a small 6% rated very poor.
