NEFB honors young farmer with Award

By Scout Nelson

At the recent 107th Annual Meeting and Convention of the Nebraska Farm Bureau in Kearney, a young farmer from Clay County was honored with the prestigious 2024 Young Farmers and Ranchers Excellence in Agriculture Award. The announcement came during the Member Appreciation luncheon held on December 10.

The award recognizes individuals who demonstrate significant involvement and commitment to agriculture. It evaluates candidates based on their agricultural involvement, leadership abilities, and participation in Farm Bureau alongside other civic, service, and community organizations.

After completing an applied science degree in agribusiness management technology, the awardee returned to the family operation, fulfilling a lifelong ambition of farming. His journey in agriculture began in youth, actively participating in 4-H and FFA and holding several officer positions.

The award winner's involvement with the Farm Bureau began through seeking advice from the Clay County Farm Bureau board during a water policy change in his community. This experience highlighted the importance of grassroots advocacy in agriculture, reinforcing his belief in active engagement to support future agricultural leaders.

As an active member of the Clay County Farm Bureau board, he participates in various Farm Bureau activities, contributes to the NEFB Young Farmers and Ranchers programs, and serves on the State Legislative Policy Committee. His dedication extends to his completion of the NEFB Leadership Academy program, further honing his leadership skills.

As the state winner, he will receive $500 and an all-expenses-paid trip to the 2025 American Farm Bureau Annual Convention in San Antonio, Texas, where he will compete at the national level against other state winners.

This recognition underscores the Nebraska Farm Bureau's commitment to fostering leadership within the agricultural community and supporting the development of young farmers who are crucial to the future of agriculture in Nebraska and beyond.
