Nebraska farm and ranch families are encouraged to attend free Farm and Ranch Succession Workshops hosted by the Nebraska Rural Response Hotline in partnership with several agricultural organizations. These sessions will focus on preparing for the future of family operations through clear and effective estate planning.
The workshops are scheduled for:
- June 25, 2025 at Prairie Winds Community Center in Bridgeport
- June 26, 2025 at Chadron State College, Ponderosa Room, Student Center
Both sessions run from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. MDT. Lunch is sponsored by local partners—Big Iron in Bridgeport and Homestead Bank in Chadron.
These educational events are supported by the Nebraska Department of Agriculture’s Beginning Farmer Tax Credit and Negotiations Programs, Nebraska Extension, and the Nebraska Farmers Union Foundation. They aim to equip families with vital knowledge on how to protect their land, assets, and agricultural legacy.
Topics covered include:
- Estate and succession planning fundamentals
- Tax implications, including transfer, death, and portability
- Use of LLCs for asset protection and buy-sell agreements
- Legal tools such as lease rights and preemptive rights
- Financial and management strategies in succession
“These workshops are intended to help farm and ranch families start, continue, or refine their succession and estate plans,” said Jessica Groskopf. “Planning for the future ensures a smooth transition to the next generation and protects the legacy of Nebraska’s agricultural producers.”
While attendance is free, pre-registration is encouraged to assist with lunch and materials preparation.
