Buffalo County 4-H Horse Show Event

Buffalo County 4-H Horse Show Event

By Scout Nelson

The Buffalo County 4-H Horse Invitational takes place at the Buffalo County Fairgrounds in Kearney, Nebraska with full support from the Buffalo County Extension Office. This event brings young riders together for a full day of learning competition and fun.

The program begins early in the morning with registration followed by the official start of the show. Participants compete in various classes under the 4-H rules. The event includes indoor and outdoor activities, with speed events planned outdoors depending on conditions. Riders are advised to confirm event details before arrival.

The competition offers several age divisions to ensure fair participation. These include Walk Trot for all ages and three other groups based on age ranges. Events begin with senior riders followed by intermediate, junior, and walk trot divisions. This order helps maintain smooth event flow.

A wide range of classes is available including English and Western riding styles. Riders take part in English Pleasure, English Equitation, and Showmanship. Western events include Western Pleasure, Western Horsemanship, and Ranch Riding. Trail and reining classes also test rider skills and horse control. Special classes like In-Hand Trail are organized for younger horses.

Speed events such as Pole Bending and Barrel Racing add excitement to the competition. If outdoor conditions change, a Keyhole Race replaces barrel racing indoors. A fun Ride A Buck activity is also included where participants bring their own dollar and winners receive a share of the collected amount.

Entry fees are simple with options for per class or full day participation. Awards include high point buckles and prizes for top performers. Riders must be present to receive awards. The event follows safety rules and reminds participants that organizers are not responsible for accidents or theft.
