Recent achievements from the campus community highlight exceptional contributions in various fields, including agronomy, soil science, food technology, and intellectual property. Several students, faculty, and researchers were recognized for their groundbreaking work.
Madhusudhan Adhikari, a master's student in soil and water science, secured third place in the ASA Graduate Poster Competition. His research addresses groundwater nitrate contamination in Nebraska, focusing on methods to reduce nitrate leaching. Lucia Bonfanti earned second place in the Crop Science Society's Graduate Oral Presentation, studying the effect of nitrogen on soybean yield distribution.
Deepak Ghimire, a doctoral student, received the Nelson Yield-Limiting Factors Graduate Student Scholarship for his work on advanced fertilizer technologies aimed at optimizing crop production. Similarly, Dipesh Giri won first place in the Soil Science Society’s Graduate Poster Presentation, researching nitrogen fertilizer use in corn farming to reduce environmental impact.
The journal Crop, Forage & Turfgrass Management recognized "A Review of Precision Management for Golf Course Turfgrass" as the 2024 Outstanding Paper. This work, authored by Roch Gaussoin, Laila Puntel, and Michael Carlson, explores turfgrass management strategies.
Patricio Grassini, a distinguished agronomy professor, was honored with the 2024 International Agronomy Award for his significant contributions to research outside the United States. Other notable recognitions include Stephanie Lugo, who earned third place for her research on post-fire soil health, and Luzviminda Sazon, who won first place for her study on nitrogen dynamics in high-yield soybeans.
Several individuals were appointed to prestigious roles, such as Christal Sheppard, a law professor, who joined the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office's Chapter of ChIPs, a network advancing women in technology and law. Rick Stowell, a professor in biological systems engineering, was named to the USDA’s Task Force on Agricultural Air Quality Research for 2024-26.
These achievements reflect the dedication of the campus community to advancing research and fostering collaboration in various disciplines.
