Nebraska Extension is set to relaunch its acclaimed webinar series titled "Fundamentals of Feeding the Cow" this coming January and February. The series is designed to equip cattle producers with essential knowledge on nutritional management to optimize the health and productivity of their herds.
Scheduled to start on January 27, the series will run on Monday and Thursday evenings through February 6, from 7:30 to 8:45 p.m. CT. Each session aims to deepen participants' understanding of how a cow's nutritional needs fluctuate over the year and how to meet these requirements cost-effectively using both grazed and harvested feeds.
Aaron Berger, a Nebraska Extension Beef Educator, highlighted the series' popularity, noting that it had attracted over 100 participants in its previous iteration in 2024. Feedback from these participants underscored the series as a top-tier educational opportunity, citing its practical examples and the convenience of the webinar format.
The curriculum for the series is comprehensive, covering key topics such as interpreting cow nutrient requirements, understanding feed test analyses and tags, and choosing the best feeding options when considering cost and nutritional value. Additionally, the sessions will address strategies for developing a year-round feeding plan that aligns with budget constraints and nutritional goals.
The enrollment fee for the series is $65, which includes a notebook filled with valuable resources from Nebraska Extension. However, space is limited to 40 participants to maintain an interactive and focused learning environment.
Prospective attendees are encouraged to register by January 17 to receive all necessary materials in time for the series start. Registration can be completed online at https://go.unl.edu/feedingthecow.
This educational initiative is particularly beneficial for producers looking to enhance their cattle management practices and adapt to the dynamic challenges of cattle nutrition. By participating, attendees will gain actionable insights that can be directly applied to their operations, ensuring their cattle are well-nourished and productive year-round.
