Enhance agricultural skills with drone workshops

By Scout Nelson

Nebraska Extension is hosting two educational events in southwest Nebraska this December, focusing on the growing role of drones in agriculture. These opportunities include the Drones in Ag Workshop and the Part 107 Remote Pilot Exam Prep Course.

Drones in Ag Workshop

The second annual Drones in Ag Workshop will be held on Dec. 17, 2024, at the Stumpf International Wheat Center in Grant, Nebraska. This event will bring together drone pilots and businesses to exchange knowledge about the expanding use of drones in agriculture. Topics include drone licensing, FAA regulations, mapping software, equipment maintenance, flight safety checklists, and an overview of drone spraying programs.

The workshop begins at 9 a.m. MST and concludes at 2 p.m. MST. Registration costs $75 and includes lunch. Interested participants can register online.

Part 107 Remote Pilot Exam Prep Course

The Part 107 Remote Pilot Exam Prep Course will be offered on Dec. 18, 2024, at the same location. This one-day course prepares attendees for the FAA Aeronautical Knowledge Exam, a requirement for obtaining a Remote Pilot Certificate.

The eight-hour session will cover aviation topics included in the two-hour, 60-question exam.

The course fee is $275, which includes study materials and lunch. Pre-registration is required by Dec. 16, and an educational discount is available.

These events provide a valuable opportunity to enhance understanding of drone technology and advance career opportunities in agriculture.
