On Sunday evening, an 84-year-old farmer was rescued after falling into a corn bin in rural Stanton County. The Stanton County Sheriff’s Office received a distress call around 7 p.m. reporting that a farmer was trapped in the bin, located just northwest of Stanton.
Emergency crews quickly responded and discovered the farmer trapped in corn up to his neck. Fortunately, he had tied a rope around his waist, which prevented him from being completely engulfed by the corn. This critical action helped keep him safe until help arrived.
Firefighters entered the corn bin while other rescue teams used a grain vacuum to carefully remove the corn around the trapped farmer. This meticulous process took about an hour, but it led to the successful rescue of the farmer. He was then transported to a hospital in Norfolk for medical evaluation and treatment.
Sheriff Mike Unger praised the collaborative efforts of the rescue teams, stating, “This was a true team effort that led to a successful conclusion of a very dangerous farm accident that often has a darker outcome.”
The swift and coordinated response of the emergency personnel played a crucial role in ensuring the farmer’s safe recovery, highlighting the importance of preparedness and teamwork in handling such critical situations.
