Farmers Gather in Crete for Nebraska Alfalfa and Wheat Expo

Farmers Gather in Crete for Nebraska Alfalfa and Wheat Expo

By Scout Nelson

Nebraska wheat and alfalfa producers are invited to the 2025 Southeast Nebraska Alfalfa and Wheat Expo on Friday, September 19, at the Saline County Fairground in Crete.

This free event, hosted by Nebraska Extension and local sponsors, runs from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and is designed to help producers sharpen their management strategies while connecting with university specialists, industry leaders, and fellow farmers.

The morning agenda focuses on wheat production and disease management. Presentations include equipment considerations, challenges for new growers, disease prevention, and strategies for achieving high yields in southeast Nebraska. A Pesticide Safety Education Program will also be highlighted before the midday lunch break.

The afternoon sessions turn attention to alfalfa production. Topics include irrigation, insect pressures, weed management, and general crop health. These presentations will give farmers practical advice to improve productivity and protect their crops.

Alongside the educational sessions, the expo will feature exhibitor booths and sponsor displays, offering farmers opportunities to network and explore new products and services. Lunch will be provided for those who register by September 15, and walk-ins are welcome. The event concludes with raffle prizes and a wrap-up session.

The expo provides flexibility, allowing attendees to stay for the full day or join individual sessions that best fit their interests. Agribusiness stakeholders can also participate by becoming sponsors or exhibitors, supporting the event while reaching local producers.

By bringing together research-based insights, hands-on management tools, and community connections, the Southeast Nebraska Alfalfa and Wheat Expo continues to serve as a valuable resource for farmers preparing for the year ahead.
